Philosophy
Statement of Faith
MVCA was founded and functions upon the basic fundamental
principles of the Word of God, and it espouses the historic Christian view of
life as presented in the BIBLE. The following
statements of faith and practice are held by the administration and staff of
MVCA.
1. We believe the Bible to be the
inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of
God (2 Timothy
3:15, 2 Peter 1:21).
2. We believe
there is only one God, eternally existent in three persons-Father, Son and Holy
Spirit (Genesis 1:1,
Matthew 28:19, John 10:30).
3. We believe in
the deity of Christ (John 10:33), His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23,
Luke 1:35), His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15,
7:26), His miracles (John 2:11), His vicarious and
atoning death (1
Corinthians 15:3, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9), His resurrection (John 11:25,
1 Corinthians 15:4), His ascension to the
right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19), His reigning
over the kingdom,
His church (Eph. 2:20), and His personal return in power and glory (Acts
1:11 and Revelation 19:11).
4. We believe in the absolute necessity
of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because
all have sinned
and fallen short of Gods Glory (Romans 3:23). We believe it is essential to
obey Biblical
teachings to enter into a saving relationship with Christ Jesus (John 3:3). In
order to be
saved, one must hear the word (Romans 10:17), believe His teachings (Hebrews
11:1,6), confess
the name of Christ (Romans 10:9-10), be baptized by immersion in water
(Acts 2:38, 1 Peter 3:21), continue in the
apostles doctrine, fellowship, the breaking of bread
(weekly
observance of communion-Acts 20:7) and in prayer (Acts 2:42, Hebrews 10:25).
5. We believe in the resurrection of both
the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the
resurrection of
life, and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29).
6. We believe in the spiritual unity of
obedient believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9,
1 Corinthians 12:12-13, Galatians 3:26-28,
Eph. 4:3), that He reigns over His kingdom, the
church, built on
the foundation of the apostles and prophets and their teachings (Eph.1:22-23,
Col.1:18) giving leadership gifts of
evangelists, pastors (elders), and teachers (Eph. 4:11).
7. We believe in
the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is
enabled to live a
godly life (Romans 8:13-14, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20, Ephesians 4:30,
5:18, Acts 2:38).
8. We believe in
the creation of the world and mankind as a direct act
of God (Gen. 1:1, 2:2,
Gen. 5:1-2).

knowledge that
Christ died for our sins, thus, we do not have to live under the dominion of
sin any longer,

3. To teach academic subjects in relation to
God and His creation. The
academic subjects will

Student Tuition Assistance Fund
(STAF)
Each year many contacts from families desiring the
quality Christian education offered through MVCA end when they discover the
financial commitment required. Through STAF (Student Tuition
Assistance Fund), many families will see their dreams of quality Christian
education fulfilled. The
need for tuition assistance will be evaluated through an outside agency. They will do a
confidential assessment of what a family is able to invest in their childs
education. The
results of the analysis will be provided to the family and to MVCA. MVCA will then
determine if funds are available to assist the family with tuition payment.

Resources and Electives
Students in elementary school will
receive instruction in Physical Education, Computer, Library, Music, and Art
through special resources.
Secondary students may choose from a variety of electives. All secondary
students will be expected to dress out for P.E.
class.
Students with Identified
Instructional Needs
Our curriculum and academic
standards are high and oftentimes transfer students need additional resource
instruction to bring them to their appropriate grade level of instruction. Our teachers stand
willing to help in whatever capacity they can to provide additional resource. For those students
who consistently struggle with academics, we will provide as much small group
and one-on-one instruction as possible. As staffing allows, we try to have one
staff person who acts as the special needs resource instructor. If a students
educational needs are not able to be met by our
program, we will advise the parents of other educational alternatives.
Summer School Enrichment Program
A summer school program will be
provided to assist students who are struggling in a particular area or those
who have failed a course necessary for advancement to the next grade. Tuition will be
evaluated and posted each summer when we know what type of instruction is
needed and if we have enough students to offer the program. Summer school also proves helpful for
transfer students who may not have had instruction in a particular subject area
that we deem necessary for enrollment in our program (i.e. phonics, basic math
skills.)
Homework
may be assigned for the following reasons:
To reinforce skills.
To encourage responsibility.
To complete unfinished school assignments, if unable to
complete work in class.
At the lower
elementary level (grades K-3), homework should be very limited. At the upper
elementary level (grades 4-5), homework may become a little more involved, and
at the secondary levels (grades 6-12), additional time for homework may be
required.
Secondary Homework Policy:
At the secondary level,
homework is vital to a students success in class. Homework grades are given daily and
may account for up to Ό of their nine-week grade. If a homework assignment is not
completed by scheduled class time, the student must complete the assignment by
the following day at which time the earned grade for the assignment is averaged
with a 50. If
homework is not turned in the following day, lunch detention will be given. If homework
assignment remains incomplete, after school detention will be assigned. Failure to complete
the assignment to this point will result in disciplinary action beginning with
one day of in-school exclusion and moving to out of school suspension. Repeated offenses will be dealt with on an individual basis according to the
severity.
Close communication and
cooperation between parents, teachers and administrators is essential in
reaching the optimum educational experience for each child. Two parent-teacher conferences will be
scheduled each year; however, if there is reason for concern throughout the
year, a conference can be requested by either the parents or the teacher. By working
together, we can insure a positive learning environment for the students. The first
parent-teacher conference will be at the completion of the first nine weeks of
school. Report
cards will be given to the parents at this time. The second parent-teacher conference
will be after the third nine-week grading period. Report cards will be given again at
this time. Should
you be unable to make these scheduled conferences, please contact you childs
teacher or the office to schedule a convenient time to meet and pick up their
report card.
The following is a basic list of
school supplies. Each
teacher may have additional supplies that they will
make you aware of the first day of class.

mid-point of each grading period. Should a student have difficulty in a
subject, the parent will be informed of problem areas prior to the end of the
nine weeks. Parents
are asked to attend parent-teacher conferences to pick up the 1st
and 3rd report cards. Final report cards will
be held in the office at the end of the school year for those with
delinquent tuition accounts.

Up to 3rd
grade, participation grades are given for Science, Social Studies and Health. Elementary Resource
classes will also receive participation grades unless informed otherwise by the
instructor at the beginning of the year.
Honor Roll- Students whose grades
make the A honor roll will have their names listed in the Winchester Star. A, AB, and B
honor rolls will be honored within the classes and academy.
To be promoted to the next
grade, a student must maintain a satisfactory grade level. Parents will be informed by the
teacher if there is a possibility of retention. Such a decision will be made after a
conference is held between the parents, teacher and administrator to determine
what action is in the best interest of the student. See also the attendance policy for
information about retention based on student absences.
The most noteworthy
qualification of the MVCA teachers is that each displays a genuine desire to
serve the Lord by teaching children His ways. They have met the requirements to be a
degreed and certified teacher through Association of Christian Schools
International (ACSI) and are also students of the Bible. Each teacher will create a warm and
loving environment in the classroom that will foster the love of God and
learning. Because
class size is limited, they are able to provide individual attention to each
child, conveying love to each child and setting a Christian example. All subject areas will be presented from a Christian world-view.
The Stanford Achievement Test is administered each spring
to students in the following grades: Kindergarten, 3rd, 6th,
9th, and 11th grades. The results are computerized and print
out sheets for each student will be available to parents.
Visitors are always
welcomed at MVCA. We
want to share our programs in action. If you would like to visit or know of
someone who would like to visit a particular class or grade level, please call
the school office at 868-1231 to set up a convenient time. We will have a scheduled open house
each spring to invite potential students and parents to observe our programs. All visitors during
the school day are to check in at the MVCA office.
The parent or guardian is
legally responsible for the attendance and punctuality of the student. Classes are planned
so that regular attendance is required if the student is to receive the full
benefit of the instruction.
Excessive absenteeism generally results in poor learning and
unsatisfactory grades.
Absences Students need a written
excuse from a parent/guardian after each absence from school. If prolonged or chronic absences
occur, the school may request a written explanation from the students
physician. A
record of poor attendance could necessitate retention and/or remedial tutoring.
Parents should call the school office at 868-1231 if a
student is ill or will not be in attendance for any
other reason.
If you are planning a family trip or know that your child
will miss several days at a time, please discuss this with your childs
teachers) and make arrangements to get his/her homework in advance. Students are
responsible for getting their assignments and for the completion of unfinished
assignments during absences. Assignments
should be complete on the day the student returns to class. Please be conscientious in planning
family holidays during school hours. If at all possible,
please plan vacation time during scheduled breaks off of school.
It is most helpful if a parent can pick up missed
assignments on the day of the absence. Students must complete their homework
equivalent to the time they missed (i.e. absent 1 day-have 1 day to complete
homework. Absent
1 week-have 1 week to complete homework.)
Assignments that have been given a specific advanced due
date ( i.e. term papers and large projects) will be
required of the student whether the student is present or absent from school
on that day. Please make arrangements to have the assignment delivered to school
by the assigned class period.
A high school student who is absent for only the day or
the class in which a test is given shall be expected to take the test the day
he returns providing the test was announced prior to the date of absence. The student should
not expect to make up the test during the class period that he missed. He/she is
responsible for reporting to the teacher of the missed class, during study
hall, lunch, or after school.
NOTE:
*misses three days in a row without
notification or,
*misses five days in a month for no
justifiable reason or,
*misses seven days in a
quarter for no justifiable reason.
In an effort to promote
the highest level of academics, MVCA has adopted the following policies:
If a high school student misses more than five days of a
daily class period or 3 classes in the block schedule in a nine-week grading
period, he/she will fail that class for the nine weeks unless a physicians
note is given or absence is school or church related (i.e. sporting or
extracurricular event).
All work will be required to be made up
regardless.
If a high school student misses more than twenty days or
class periods of a daily class or 12 block schedule classes in a school year,
he/she will fail for the year.
Exceptions will be made only in
the event of long-term illnesses in which the student has successfully
completed all assigned class work and provided a physicians note.
Guidelines for keeping your child
home from school:
Definite
reasons:
Fever
above 100 degrees
Severe
coughing
Difficulty
breathing
Stiff
neck
Diarrhea
(more than one abnormally loose stool within a 24 hour
period)
Vomiting
Conjunctivitis
(pink eye)
Untreated
infected skin patches
Evidence
of lice or scabies (must be treated before return to
school)
Sore
throat associated with fever
Skin
rashes associated with fever
Chicken pox or other
childhood disease (must have all pox scabbed over before return to school)
The child must be symptom
free for 24 hours before returning to school
With other more mild
illnesses, the situation needs to be determined by the circumstances. Some children use
illness as an avoidance technique. Such children should probably be
encouraged to come to school as the activity will divert their attention from a
mild problem. Other
children who rarely complain might need to stay home
as they would not be able to actively participate in school activities.
During any illnesses, students and
staff alike should use healthful techniques such as frequent hand washing and
covering the mouth when coughing or sneezing in order to discourage
communicating illnesses from one person to another. Please report any cases of
communicable disease (i.e. lice, chicken pox, etc.) to the office so we can
alert the other parents and maintain a healthy school environment.
