MATERIALS NEEDED:

Chemistry for Christian Schools Textbook

3 Ring Binder and loose leaf paper

Scientific Calculator (you can obtain one adequate for the task for less than $15.00)

Blue or black pens (no gel pens) and pencils

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Successful completion of this course depends upon active involvement in oral and written classroom work, completion of homework assignments and projects, and demonstration of skills acquired on oral/written tests and quizzes

 

EVALUATION:

Homework --  Each grade counts once      
Quizzes--Each grade counts twice

Tests/Projects--Each grade counts three times

Participation--Each grade counts once (given randomly throughout the grading period)            

              

HOMEWORK:  Homework will generally be assigned every night. Occasionally, homework may be assigned as blocks of assignments and given a due date so that students can work ahead if they wish to plan around athletic events or other school, church, or family events. Homework is due when it is assigned--always! Most homework assignments are evaluated by the students using the following criteria: completion, promptness, and effort--not performance! Students are encouraged to do their best and answer all questions to the best of their ability and use good studying skills in thinking, searching for the answers, and rethinking.  Incomplete homework is not acceptable and will not receive full credit. Homework that is one day late will be averaged with a "0" and will be due the next day or a lunch detention will be assigned.

 

SPAT Correspondence Form

     The Student, Parent, and Teacher (SPAT) Correspondence Form is a means of communication between all parties involved in the education process. In order to be effective it will be necessary for everyone to work together.  The following guidelines will be helpful.

 

The student will:

* write the given assignment in its entirety in the space provided on the

   SPAT Correspondence Form on the day that the work is due, complete    

   it, and place it in the appropriate section of the 3-ring binder.

           * document all homework, quiz, and test grades on the form.

           * deliver the form to a parent at assigned times throughout the 9 weeks (at

              least 4 times per 9 weeks) for initials and return it on the following day.

         

The parent will:

            * read the grades and/or comments on the SPAT Correspondence Form,

               initial it, make any comments or suggestions, and return it to the student

            * assist the teacher in encouraging the student to do his/her best

 

The teacher will:

            * inform the parent of any academic/behavioral issues

            * distribute quiz or test papers in a timely fashion and have students

               record these grades on the grade sheet

            * give plenty of opportunities for grades to be earned throughout the 

              quarter

            *read and respond to any comments or concerns of the parent

 

ABSENCES:

Students are responsible for all work missed as a result of an absence.   Quizzes and tests missed will be taken during a student's lunch elective or lunch time.  Students have 1 day for every day missed in order to make up the work.  Work not made up will receive a grade of “0” and will still be done in ISE. It is the student's responsibility to make arrangements to make up work.

 

ROLES

TEACHER'S ROLE:

The instructor is responsible for:

            *setting a Christian example in speech, life, love, faith, and purity

            *maintaining a orderly classroom where learning can occur

            *using class time wisely and following carefully written lesson plans

            *evaluating the students’ progress and keeping records of all assess-

                 ment, available to students and parents at their request

            *communicating  respectfully with parents in academic and discipline 

                   issues (both in positive and negative situations)

            *attending parent-teacher conferences

 

STUDENT’S ROLE:

The student is responsible for:

             *setting a good example in behavior and academics for his peers and

                   for younger students (both, in class and out)

             *following instructions the first time stated without argument

             *turning all assigned work in on time, done to the best of his ability

             *exhibiting proper classroom behavior (sitting erect and maintaining eye contact with the instructor, taking notes, and participating in all classroom work)

              *transferring information from the instructor to the parents and from the

                  parents to the instructor, as needed (includes discipline notices,  progress reports, report cards, information envelopes, etc.

 

PARENT’S ROLE:

The parent is responsible for:

             *encouraging and holding the student accountable in fulfilling his

                 obligations

             *reinforcing the standards set by the school and the instructor

             *communicating any concerns with the instructor in a respectful and  

                  timely fashion

             *returning all correspondence with a signature (includes discipline

                  notices, progress reports, report cards, information envelopes, etc.

             *attending parent-teacher conferences
